BBM FAQ

What is a proper break in period and a maintenance schedule I should perform with my BBM Screw Compressor kit?

Screw compressor, check list, break in procedure & maintenance

 -         Call us if you plan on doing anything custom surrounding your screw compressor kit, including any intercooler, air intake or anything other than the factory stock intercooler or one that we provide as a kit.

REQUIRED STEPS:

1.      Change engine oil and filter. Do not use synthetic oil during break in.  A full break in period is 3-5 thousand miles. Use only OEM, German brand, oil filters. Proper oil pressure is required to prevent compressor damage.

2.      Verify that the engine oil pressure is within the factory limits.

3.      Be sure not to kink or bend the oil return lines during installation.

4.      Verify that the oil feed and return lines are not damaged, kinked, or blocked.

BREAK IN PROCEDURE

1.      DO NOT operate the engine without the proper air filter installed. DO NOT block the air intake even momentarily while the engine is operating.

2.      Upon initial startup, allow the engine to idle for a minimum of 15 minutes in a well-ventilated area. DO NOT rev the engine, idle only!

3.      Always allow the engine to warm up to full operating temperature completely before applying full throttle during driving.

4.      Maintain engine speeds below 4500rpm for the first 500 miles of driving.

5.      Avoid prolonged high rpm driving in the red line, and or hitting / bouncing the rev limiter.

BASIC MAINTENANCE

-         Change your engine oil and filter every three thousand miles. Use only good quality full synthetic oil and the proper weight for your climate. Only run synthetic oil after the initial break in period.

-         At the time of every oil change, remove and clean the oil feed jet fitting and sintered filter on the top of the compressor oil feed line. Look through it to be sure it is clean and free of any blockage. Check the condition of the oil feed and return lines.

-         Replace your air filter if it is damaged, verify that it is sealing properly.  Clean your air filter if it is the reusable type and check the seal. Use only the proper cleaning solutions and oils with reusable types of air filter elements.

-         If your air filter element is hitting or rubbing on anything in the engine bay correct the problem and replace the filter element.

-         Do not use air impact guns on the main pulley drive bolt. Use anti seize and torque the pulley bolt to 55 foot pounds.

-         Avoid prolonged high rpm driving in the red line, and or hitting / bouncing the rev limiter.

-         Always warm up your engine before engaging in high rpm driving or applying boost loads.
