My mid-engine RWD Rabbit GTI project 3 years in the making.
This is my second Rabbit GTI that I purchased in 1995 for $400. I missed my first white "Alpine Edition" '84 GTI that I gave to my brother so much I had to get another one.
This black GTI had a 190,000 miles on it when I bought it with a snapped crank shaft, and a distroyed interior. The good, was that it was straight, and had a Zender 3-piece wing. I had rebuilt the original 8 valve in hopes to turbo charge, and spent about two years restoring the interior to stock appearance and condition, and rebuilding the suspension for a daily driver/ weekend track car.
I put about 30k miles on the 8-valve motor, and did a complete Passat 2.0 16v swap. The photo with the Scirocco 1 front end was how the car sat with that set up. The interior was mildly stripped, and changed to include a Corrado dash, Corbeau Forza seats, and Schroth Autocontroller harness' to name a few mods.
I put about another 30k on that engine, before I came across a 1.8t from a wrecked '02 Jetta with 2500 miles on it about 5 years ago. This is when I decided to try something different. The car has sat for about a year in it's current state, and I will plan to start working on it again this fall when I finish two more project cars.
